Scholarships are an integral part of our 4-H curriculum and many of our 4-H Alberta members pursue post-secondary education and vocational training. The 4-H Alberta Scholarship program helps and supports youth who wish to pursue higher education. The 4-H Foundation of Alberta awards the following scholarships:

Elmer and Ona Hansen Memorial Fund Scholarship: Application opens: May 1, 2020; Application closes June 30, 2020

We are thrilled and proud to continue the Hansen/Ness Legacy! Ten (10) Scholarships will be awarded, worth a total of $80,000!

  • One (1) $20,000 scholarship
  • One (1) $15,000 scholarship
  • One (1) $10,000 scholarship
  • Seven (7) scholarships at $5,000 each


  • Must be Alberta rural farm young persons
  • Must be enrolled as a first-year student at an acknowledge post-secondary institution and not have previously started or completed post-secondary program

Growing Alberta Scholarship: Application opens December 1, 2019; Application closes January 31, 2020

In the 2019/2020 academic year, a total of five (5) scholarships valued at $750 each will be chosen from the eligible institutions listed below.

Eligible Institutions:

  • Grande Prairie Regional College – Fairview Campus
  • Lakeland College
  • Lethbridge College
  • NAIT – Edmonton Campus
  • Olds College

4-H Alberta Provincial Scholarships: Application opens March 1, 2020; Application closes May 15, 2020

By completing one online application, 4-H members will be considered for all 4-H Alberta Scholarships for which they are eligible. Applicants can only receive one (1) provincial 4-H Alberta Scholarship (up to $2,500!) but may also receive a region, district, or club scholarship in the same application year.

Thank you to AFSC, ATB, the Alberta Beef Producers, CCI Wireless, Cervus Equipment, Gas Alberta, Lammle’s, and Rocky View County who allocated a portion of their sponsorship funding towards our scholarship program.


  • You must be a past or present member of a 4-H Alberta Club
  • You may apply for a 4-H scholarship every year that you are a full time post-secondary student at an officially recognized institution
  • Successful applicants must provide proof that they are attending a post-secondary institution full time.

Please note that some of our ‘additional’ scholarship selection committees are still in the process of selection their 2019 recipients. Our scholarship recipient list will be updated once those recipients have been selected.
